Heinrich Husanus was born in Eisenach in 1536 as the son of the craftsman and later mayor Johannes Haussen († April 5, 1563). He began an apprenticeship in the Hanse office in Bergen (Norway) . Because of the bad treatment he experienced there, he returned to his homeland, began studying at the University of Jena in 1551 and switched to the University of Wittenberg on May 31, 1553 . In the company of Philipp Melanchthon , Johannes Stigel and Friedrich Widebram he found the inspiration for his own poetic experiments. His poetry was based on topics from the Bible, combining his own experiences with criticism of the events of the day.

After attending the University of Ingolstadt in 1556 , he went to the University of Bourges to Franciscus Duarenus in 1557 and to the University of Padua in 1559 to study law. After working for some time at the Imperial Court of Justice in Speyer , he returned to Jena as a notary in 1560. He obtained his doctorate in law in 1561. From 1561 to 1562 he was Professor of Law at the University of Jena. His knowledge gave him a position as a ducal Saxon councilor in 1562. Because of the Grumbachian Handel he became an opponent of Christian Brück , traveled to France and England in 1564 and fell out of favor with his sovereign in 1566, so that he fled to the Palatinate, deprived of all possessions.

Johann Albrecht von Mecklenburg appointed him councilor and chancellor in 1567, in which office he had grueling political conflicts with the Mecklenburg estates and cities. Health problems and an increasing aversion to his function led him to say goodbye to court life in Mecklenburg in 1573. He went to Lüneburg, where he placed himself in the service of the city as a syndic and died.
