Heinrich Mulert (* in the 15th century in Zwolle ; † August 18, 1521 in Stralsund ) was a legal scholar and university professor at the University of Greifswald . He was involved in adapting the legal system in the Duchy of Pomerania to the general development in the Holy Roman Empire .

Life

Heinrich Mulert came from an old family from northern Salland . He attended universities in the Netherlands and France, and was both Doctor of Laws and on the faculty of arts doctorate . On June 18, 1500, he enrolled in the matriculation of the University of Rostock and received his master's degree from the Philosophical Faculty in the winter semester 1502/03. In 1509 and 1510 he taught at the University of Rostock. There he became acquainted with Ulrich von Hutten , who praised him in his sixth Tetrastichon der Querelis . Duke Bogislaw X. of Pomerania called him to Stettin as a princely councilor .

The Duke sent him in December 1513 to the Law Faculty of the University of Greifswald, where he was accepted on January 2, 1514 under Rector Enwald Schinkel . Like Petrus von Ravenna, Mulert was one of several foreign scholars whom Bogislaw X brought to the country to reorganize the legal system and administration.

Mulert may have influenced the appointment of Johann Luwens from Hasselt , the poet Johannes Hadeke and Peter and Georg Gruel to the artist faculty. In 1514, 1516 and 1520 Heinrich Mulert was rector of the university. Of his students, Johannes Otto , Johann Oldendorp and Heinrich Bukow , who received his doctorate and who later taught in Greifswald, were particularly important.

In 1518 he married the widow of Joachim Stevelin. He died in 1521 while traveling in Stralsund.
