Heinrich Richard Ernst Press (born December 31, 1901 in Oker / Harz , † August 14, 1968 in Berlin ) was a German hydraulic engineer and university professor .

Life

Heinrich Press was the son of the postal worker Richard Press (1871–1952) and the doctor Emma, ​​nee. Lehrmann (1880-1935). In 1922 he passed his Abitur in Braunschweig and began studying civil engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig . Later at the Technical University of Berlin , where he was an assistant, passed the diploma examination in 1926 and received his doctorate in 1929 on the subject of soil mechanics . He was an employee for static tasks at Heirich Müller-Breslau . He completed his 2-year legal traineeship before the second state examination to become a government builder at the Reich Waterways Administration in Potsdam and the Prussian Water Management Administration .

In 1928 he was employed by a company founded by master bricklayer Gottlieb Tesch († 1912) in 1876 , where he became an authorized signatory in 1935 and later became director and managing director. He became director of Julius Berger Tiefbau AG , which Gottlieb Tesch had acquired as a subsidiary in 1941.

In 1948 he succeeded Adolf Ludin at the chair for hydraulic engineering and water management at the Technical University of Berlin. He arranged for the hydraulic engineering research institute to be rebuilt and wrote several books. In 1955 the laboratory was converted into an independent institute for hydraulic engineering and water management. Numerous international hydraulic engineering projects were planned or assessed by him. He was awarded eight honorary doctorates or honorary professorships and the diplomatic degree of vice-consul. He was president of the German Water Management Association.

Burial place

Press married Martha Frieda, b. Bradtner (1905-1996). The marriage resulted in two sons. Press is buried in the Dahlem forest cemetery.
