Heinrich Wanderwitz

Heinrich Wanderwitz (* 1949 in Passau ) is a German historian and archivist (retired archive director).

Wanderwitz originally came from Lower Bavaria and after graduating from high school in Landshut studied history, German and social studies at the University of Regensburg in Upper Palatinate ; In 1975 he passed the state examination for higher teaching qualifications and in 1976 earned a master's degree in history. He was a “student, magistrate and doctoral student” with Andreas Kraus . In 1980 he was in Regensburg with the dissertation studies the medieval salt being in Bavaria for Dr. phil. PhD. From 1978 to 1981 he also graduated from the Bavarian Archive School in Munich.

From 1981 to 1984 he was the city archivist of Amberg . In 1984 he became head of the Regensburg City Archives and in 1989 of the Office for Archives and Monument Preservation. In 1985 an inventory database (“Fontes Civitatis Ratisponensis”) for the documentation and edition of medieval and early sources was set up under his direction. In the 1990s he and colleagues initiated the multimedia project "document Neupfarrplatz ". The declaration of Regensburg's old town with Stadtamhof as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006 is largely due to his application for office. In 2015 he retired.

He also took on a teaching position at the Institute for Art History at the University of Regensburg. From 2006 to 2009 he was also a committee member and archivist of the Historical Association for Upper Palatinate and Regensburg .
