The Altenmarkskopf (formerly: Somborner Höhe ) is a 269 meter high mountain in the Lower Spessart in the Hessian Main-Kinzig district .

geography

The summit is located on the district of Freigericht and is the highest elevation in the forest east of Hanau . The border with the Bavarian city of Alzenau runs on its southern slopes in the lower Kahlgrund . The Altenmarkskopf belongs to the Oberrodenbach hill country, which forms the southern foothills of the Ronneburg hill country . Surrounding places are Oberrodenbach , Somborn , Albstadt , Michelbach and Alzenau. Its southwestern spur, which extends to Bavaria, is called the Schäferberg . Below that, the Schäferheide extends to the Kahl .

At Altenmarkskopf, the old streets Birkenhainer Straße and Sälzer Weg cross . To the south of it runs a high-voltage line from the Staudinger power station to substations . The following bodies of water arise at Altenmarkskopf: in the southwest the Einfallsgraben , in the southeast the Streubach , in the east at the golf course of Hof Trages the Goldbach , in the north the Rodenbach and in the northwest the two brooks that run to the Barbarossa spring.

In the Middle Ages, north-west of the summit, there was an Electoral Mainz estate with the name Häuserhart. There the three districts of Kurmainz, Hanau and Somborn converged on Dreimärkerstein .

A street in Alzenau was named after the spur name Schäferberg .
