The Heinrichsbach is a left tributary of the Wachenbach in the Main-Spessart district in the Bavarian Spessart . It arises in the Hochspessart from the confluence of the Metzenbach and Weihersbach in Weihersgrund north of the Torhaus Aurora . It is also called Heinrichswasser .

Surname

The Heinrichsbach is so named because Emperor Heinrich IV lived in the area for some time. There is no connection with the Heinrichsmühle located on the Wachenbach . In 1666 the brook was mentioned as Cunerichswasser .

geography

Spring streams

Confluence of the Metzenbach (back left) and Weihersbach (back right)

Metzenbach

The right source stream, the Metzenbach , rises in the Metzenbrunnen at 457  m above sea level. NN at Geiersberg (586 m), the highest point in the Spessart. It flows in an easterly direction and, at 2.2 km, is the longer and richer spring stream.

Weihersbach

The 1.9 km long, left source stream, the Weihersbach , rises at about 415  m above sea level. NN at the foot of the Bayerskopf (523 m) in a swampy area. It runs in a south-easterly direction. The Weihersbach has no water in summer. The dry stream bed is then again in a concrete fed ierten channel from the overflow of the fountain pond. About 200 m after this point the Weihersbach joins the Metzenbach .

course

From the confluence of the source streams in the Weihersgrund nature reserve , the Heinrichsbach flows in a south-easterly direction. From there, on the left slope of the valley, there is the border to the now unincorporated area of Fürstlich Löwensteinscher Park . Afterwards, he happened to Bischbrunn belonging wasteland Sylvan in Weiher reason . Below were two mills operated by Heinrichsbach, the Schulzenmühle and the Weihersmühle . Today only the foundation walls of both can be seen. Past the Schleifthor , which belongs to Esselbach , the stream reaches the former location of the beetle mill, which was demolished in 1842 . Shortly before its mouth, the Heinrichsbach feeds the still existing Kieseckersmühle and splits up. At the Alte Wachenmühle , both arms flow from the left into the Wachenbach .

Weihersgrund nature reserve

Weihersgrund nature reserve
Map of the nature reserve

The 43 hectare nature reserve Weihersgrund was designated in 1998. It is located north of Bischbrunn in the Bischbrunner Forest , below the Geiersberg , in the area of the Weihersbach and Metzbach brooks, which unite in the Heinrichsbach nature reserve. It extends from the Metzenbrunnen to the Sylvan forester's house in Weihersgrund . The bottom of the Weihersgrund valley is roughly at the level of the groundwater surface, which leads to spring outflows in several places. In the nature reserve, three wells for drinking water were drawn.

The settlement-free and almost untouched valley section has species-rich wet and wet meadows. Endangered species such as the knotweed pondweed , arnica , broad-leaved orchid , creeping willow and forest lice , as well as carnivorous plants such as the round-leaved sundew and the mean sundew grow in the pond . The black stork and numerous small mammals live in the nature reserve , especially various mice as well as butterflies , grasshoppers and amphibians .

Mills

Mills in Wachen- and Heinrichsgrund around 1860:

(1.) = Petersmühle
(2.) = Heinrichsmühle
(3.) = Old Wachenmühle
(4.) = Kieseckersmühle
(5.) = Käfermühle
(6.) = New Wachenmühle
(7.) = Pfeuffersmühle
(8.) = Weihersmühle
(9.) = railway bridge mill

The Heinrichsbach flows through the Weihersgrund and Heinrichsgrund , where it operated five mills. The Schulzenmühle and Weihersmühle (both broken off), the Käfermühle (broken off) and the Schlehleinsmühle (broken off) and Kieseckersmühle . Only the Kieseckersmühle buildings still exist today. A partial arm of the Heinrichsbach runs through the old guard mill .

Schulzenmühle and Weihersmühle

Below Sylvan in Weihersgrund were the now no longer existing Weihersmühle (location) and Schulzenmühle , which shared a common mill ditch. The Schulzenmühle was built in 1820. Two hundred meters below, the Schulzenmüller built the Weihersmühle from the material of the demolished Käfermühle. In 1908 the Schulzenmühle burned down completely, after which the Weihersmühle also fell into disrepair. From both mills you can still see the masonry ditch, chunks of bricks and iron parts as well as foundation walls and foundations.

Beetle mill

The Käfermühle (location) was once located in Heinrichsgrund between Schleifthor and Kieseckersmühle . It was built in 1815 by Peter Ready, the owner of the Petersmühle . In 1842 it was sold to Schulzenmüller and then demolished. At the former location of the Käfermühle there has been a pump house of the Marktheidenfeld water group since 1999, which holds the Friedrichsbrunnen . Of the mill, only the Mühlkanal is visible today.

Schlehleinsmühle and Kieseckersmühle

The Kieseckersmühle (Lage), which still exists today, is located just before the Heinrichsbach flows into the Wachenbach. It shared the water with the Schlehleinsmühle via a common mill ditch . The Schlehleinsmühle used to be right next to the Kieseckersmühle and no longer exists today. In 1692 the first Kieseckersmühle was built by Heinrich Kiesecker. In 1789 Valentin Ready built the “New Kieseckersmühle” right next to it. The old mill was sold to Johann Georg Schlehlein in 1845. Since then it has been called Schlehleinsmühle. It was sold in 1935 and demolished in 1940. The (new) Kieseckersmühle was in operation until 1943.
