Heinz Holecek

Heinz "Honzo" Holecek (born April 13, 1938 in Vienna ; † April 13, 2012 there ) was an Austrian singer . The bass baritone , known both as an opera and operetta singer as well as a song interpreter, was also a Viennese "all-round artist" - actor , parodist , entertainer .

Career

After completing his vocal training at the Vienna Conservatory , Holecek studied at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts . One of his singing teachers there was Elisabeth Radó . He made his debut at the Volksoper in 1960 as Papageno in the Magic Flute . He was first heard in the same role at the Vienna State Opera in 1962 , and from 1965 he appeared in both houses. Holecek has made guest appearances at opera houses in Paris, Barcelona, ​​Rome, Stockholm, Stuttgart, Zurich, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin and also at the Bregenz Festival .

In 1977 he was appointed chamber singer and in 2000 he was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, 1st Class .

Act

Holecek interpreted many operetta roles, but in Fledermaus he played the roles of the falcon , Frank and the frog . He was also active as artistic director and director at the Summer Festival on the Schallaburg and at the Kamptaler Festival . In addition, he took part in a large number of sound and vinyl recordings as well as television productions and had numerous TV shows of his own, with his parodies in particular being very popular with the audience.

Holecek also devoted himself emphatically to the maintenance of the Viennese song . Together with Heinz Zednik and the Philharmonia-Schrammeln as well as with the Wiener Schrammel Ensemble , he has made several CD recordings. Tours with Wienerlieder took him to Los Angeles, Montreal, Moscow and Japan.

He was also an honorary board member of the Vienna Animal Welfare Association.

Heinz Holecek passed away after being in a coma since collapsing in February 2012. He was buried with great sympathy on April 27, 2012 in the Neustifter Friedhof (1-10-7) in Vienna.

His son Sebastian Holecek also became a singer and has been a member of the Vienna Volksoper ensemble since 2006 .
