Heinz Mandl

Heinz Mandl (* 21st May 1937 in Munich ) is a psychologist and emeritus professor for Empirical Pedagogy and Educational Psychology at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich .

Life

After graduating from high school, he studied teaching for elementary and secondary schools from 1956 to 1958 and worked as a teacher from 1961 to 1967. After studying psychology (diploma in 1971), he received his doctorate in psychology , educational science and sociology at the University of Munich in 1975 . He then worked as a research assistant at the University of Augsburg. From 1978 to 1990 he was professor of educational science and educational psychology at the University of Tübingen. In 1990 he was appointed to the chair for empirical education and educational psychology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. From 1995 to 2000 he was Dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Education at the University of Munich .

From 1989 to 1991 he was President of the European Association for Research in Learning and Instruction (EARLI). In 2003 he received the EARLI Oeuvre Award. He was visiting professor at the universities of Friborg (Switzerland), Helsinki (Finland), Viseu (Portugal), Zurich (Switzerland) and Linz (Austria).
