Heinz Ostermann (* 14. August 1940 in Gdansk ) is a German wrestling - coach .

Career

Heinz Ostermann grew up in Saarland and comes from a family where wrestling was simply part of the sport. So he followed his father Fritz Ostermann senior. into the wrestling career. In 1932 he became the German bantamweight champion, Greco-Roman style . Thanks to his excellent performance, Fritz Ostermann wore the colors of the German national relay several times and was an Olympic candidate for the 1936 Games in Berlin . When Fritz Ostermann's wrestling career was over, his father coached his three sons Heinz, Fritz and Peter with great ambition. So Heinz Ostermann's younger brother Fritz jr. 1961 in the lightweight national championship runner-up and junior title holder in freestyle wrestling .

In his youth, Heinz Ostermann also belonged to the top German class of wrestlers. He started wrestling as a nine-year-old at KSV Köllerbach . In 1951 he moved with his parents to Heusweiler , where he joined the AC “Siegfried” squadron. When his parents moved to Saarbrücken in 1955 , Heinz and his father moved to the "Adler" Burbach.

Father Fritz and son Heinz wrestled together in the first team. Heinz Ostermann's star as a wrestler finally rose when he hit the mat in 1957 in KSV Malstatt 01 , which was re-founded by his father Fritz . By winning the Saarland youth championships in both styles, Heinz earned his first laurels. As a 19-year-old he almost created a sensation when he was close to winning the bantamweight title at the German freestyle championships in Malstatt . He shouldered the German champion Fink from Witten , which was overlooked by the judges. But Heinz Ostermann was also in the limelight with the runner-up. In 1960 he became German junior champion in the Greco-Roman style.

Success as a trainer

The sport of wrestling has always had a special place in Saarland and was an excellent breeding ground for outstanding coaches and wrestlers: for example, Rolf Lacour , Werner Hoppe, Kurt Spaniol and Konstantin Schneider .

After studying for a year at the Saarbrücken Sports School , Heinz Ostermann became a state-certified gymnastics and sports teacher. The study immediately pays off for Ostermann, because he first became regional trainer in Saarland and by 1966 national trainer. The situation was so favorable for Ostermann because the Federal Committee for Competitive Sports had been founded a year earlier .

As a national coach in the German Wrestling Federation, Ostermann and his protégés won 9 Olympic medals, 32 World Cup medals and 60 European Championship medals. In total, his athletes won 101 medals in international wrestling tournaments, including 30 gold medals. Ostermann's most famous protégés include Adolf Seger and Martin Knosp .

The precious metal of his protégé Pasquale Passarelli is considered the most spectacular gold medal under Ostermann's direction . The bantamweight defeated the Japanese Masaki Eto 8: 5 in the final of the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles .

Pasquale Passarelli married Ostermann's daughter Sonja after winning the Olympics. From this marriage came Sandro Passerelli, who has also become a well-known wrestler at KSV Wiesental .

Heinz Ostermann is one of the most successful German national coaches. For over 25 years he worked for the German Wrestling Association (DRB). After the death of his wife Uschi, Ostermann resigned. He then switched to his ex-student and former assistant coach Erich Klaus , who runs a fitness studio in Reilingen, as a sports teacher .

After nine years with the fitness man Erich Klaus, another career turning point came: Heinz Ostermann signed with the Austrian Wrestling Association (ÖRSV) in 2007 as head trainer and sports director.

At the European Wrestling Championships 2011 in Dortmund , the FILA world association voted Heinz Ostermann “Trainer of the Year”.

For the Olympic Games in London 2012, Ostermann built the Greco wrestler Amer Hrustanovic in the weight class up to 84 kilos , who reached tenth place.
