Kurt Spaniol

Kurt Spaniol (born September 19, 1954 in Eppelborn ) is a former German wrestler .

Career

Kurt Spaniol began wrestling as a teenager at KSV Eppelborn , but soon switched to Bundesliga club KSV Köllerbach . He wrestled in the Greco-Roman style. In 1972 he won the title at the German youth championship in the class up to 75 kg body weight and in 1974 he became German junior middleweight champion. Kurt Spaniol first won the title of German senior senior champion in 1977. In total, he was German middleweight champion six times in a row by 1982.

Between 1974 and 1982 Kurt Spaniol represented the German colors in countless international championships and tournaments. He always fought with full commitment and always with fair means. The great success was denied to him. His best results were the 4th place at the Junior European Championship in 1974 in Haparanda , the excellent 5th place at the World Championship in Mexico City , where he was able to defeat the top wrestlers Leif Andersson from Sweden and Ömer Suzan from Turkey and the good 5th place Place at the European Championship 1982 in Varna .

Against the then middleweight in Greco-Roman. Style dominant Jan Dołgowicz from Poland , Ion Draica from Romania , Taimuraz Abchazawa , Anatoly Nazarenko u. Kurt Spaniol, who is a police officer, achieved great success at the European Championships of Police Officers, where he won the title several times.

After retiring from active wrestling, he made himself available to the Saarland wrestling association as a functionary.
