The 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles were an exception . There he won his first three fights and after a defeat against the Romanian Ilie Matei against the Swedish world champion Frank Andersson fought for the bronze medal. Uwe was able to keep this fight open for a long time, but then finally lost with 0: 5 points and thus came in 4th place.

In 1986 Uwe Sachs, who was a member of the Bundeswehr during his time as an active wrestler, ended his international career.
