Hella Jongerius

Hella Jongerius (born May 30, 1963 in De Meern , Netherlands as Wilhelmina Maria Cornelia Jongerius ) is a Dutch designer and lecturer . In her work she combines simple and highly developed techniques, traditional and modern.

Life

After completing an apprenticeship as a carpenter, Jongerius studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven , where she graduated in 1993. She then became a member of the Droog Design designer collective in Amsterdam . In 1993 she started her own company in Rotterdam : Jongeriuslab. From 1998 to 1999 she taught industrial design at the Eindhoven Academy , where she was head of the Living / Atelier department from 2000 to 2004. In addition to the Rotterdam location, Jongerius has had her studio in a coach house in Kastanienallee in Berlin since 2008 . From 2008 to 2015 Jongerius was a lecturer in product design at the Weißensee Art College in Berlin.

She worked for Maharam (New York), KLM (Netherlands), Vitra (Switzerland), IKEA (Sweden), Camper (Spain), Nymphenburg (Germany) and the oldest earthenware factory in the Netherlands, Koninklijke Tichelaar in Makkum . Her work is exhibited in galleries and museums, for example the Cooper Hewitt Museum (New York), MoMA (New York), Stedelijk Museum (Netherlands), Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam), Design Museum (London), Galerie Kreo ( Paris) and in the Moss gallery (New York). At the invitation of the curator Hans Ulrich Obrist , she realized the installation Color Recipe Research in the group exhibition EXEMPLARY for the 150th anniversary of the MAK in Vienna . She has been Art Director for colors & materials at Vitra since 2007 and has built up a comprehensive library for colors, textures and materials. In 2013 Jongerius became Design Director for the Danskina carpet company.
