Helmut Rehhahn

Helmut Rehhahn (born August 29, 1947 in Dabrun ) is a German SPD politician . From 1990 to 2002 he was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt and from 1994 to 1996 Minister of Agriculture.

Life and work

After graduating from high school in Wittenberg, Rehhahn did an agricultural training in Globig . From 1966 to 1973 he studied agriculture in Halle , Leipzig and Rostock . From 1973 to 1980 he was production manager at the young cattle facility in Seegrehna and then until 1986 manager of the central bull testing station in Bietegast . From 1986 until he moved into the state parliament, he worked as a department head in the Volkseigenes Gut (VEG) Seegrehna.

After the end of his political career, Rehhahn worked as a management consultant in the agricultural sector, including for the Dutch animal producer Harrie van Gennip . For this company he mainly worked on the preparation of new buildings for factory farms, for example in Haßleben and Mahlwinkel .

From January 2004 Rehhahn was managing director of the management consultancy Magdeburg GmbH. In 2013 he founded the company Wittenberg Gemüse GmbH with Dutch investors , which grows tomatoes and peppers in greenhouses at SKW Piesteritz .

Rehhahn was married and has three children.

Political activity

In January 1990 Rehhahn joined the SPD. From 1990 he was a member of the Wittenberg district council for many years . In the state parliament he represented the constituency of Wittenberg and was most recently deputy chairman of the committee for food, agriculture and forestry, as well as a member of the committee for finance and the temporary committee for local government reform. Rehhahn was Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forestry of the State of Saxony-Anhalt from 1994 to 1996 in the state government led by Prime Minister Reinhard Höppner . After his resignation due to the so-called "funding affair", the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry was merged with the Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Regional Planning to form the Ministry of Regional Planning, Agriculture and Environment under Heidrun Heidecke . In addition, a parliamentary committee of inquiry in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt dealt with the "funding affair", where Rehhahn was also heard as a witness.
