Historical

Globig is a typical street village from the 13th century. The district of Bleddin was almost completely destroyed in 1637 during the Thirty Years' War by the troops of the Swedish Field Marshal Johan Banér . In 1738 a great fire devastated almost the entire village of Globig. In the course of the Battle of Wartenburg in 1813, several skirmishes took place at Globig and Bleddin.

Globig has always been a rural community with up to 1000 inhabitants, around 25 large and small farms, a dairy, a mill and two blacksmiths. There were also two grocery stores, a baker and a butcher, two shoemakers, a tailor's shop, a carpentry shop, a wheelwright, a hairdresser and two restaurants as well as a kindergarten, a primary school with eight classes and teaching staff, the volunteer fire brigade , a post office and the mayor's office .

Attractions

  • Globig's 13th century church, which is Gothic in essence, served as a fortified church during the Thirty Years' War . It was restored in 1726. The organ dates from this time. The church is a flat-roofed hall building, on which a sacristy was later built on the east side and a pointed arch door in the south. The ceiling painting by Michael Adolf Siebenhaar and the font from 1900 are remarkable. Restorations took place in 1971 and 1990.
  • Bleddin Church was built in 1690 by master carpenter Bopp from Wittenberg. It is a baroque-style flat-roofed plastered building with a square, boarded-up west tower made of brick-filled half-timbering. The altar, pulpit and gallery are decorated with tendrils. The altarpieces are copies of the Kemberger altarpieces by Lucas Cranach the Elder. J. Before that there was an older church from 1474, which was demolished in 1578.
