Helmut Schütz

Helmut Schütz (born December 25, 1956 in Amberg ) is a German lieutenant general in the air force of the Bundeswehr and has been the commanding general of the air force command since September 2015 .

Military career

Helmut Schütz joined the Air Force in 1975 as an officer candidate . He completed his basic training in the Air Force Training Regiment 3 in Roth near Nuremberg , then from 1975 to 1976 he took part in the officers 'course at the Air Force officers' school in Fürstenfeldbruck . This was followed by a degree in electrical engineering at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich , from which he graduated as a graduate engineer. From 1981 to 1983 he completed his training as a jet pilot in Wichita Falls , Texas and the weapons system training on the Lockheed F-104 "Starfighter" in Phoenix , Arizona . Schütz was then transferred to Fighter Bomber Wing 32 in Lechfeld. Until 1987 he flew the F-104 and later the Panavia Tornado . In 1987 he became a task force officer and was responsible for the flight operations of a flying squadron. From 1988 to 1990 he was a squadron captain with Fighter Bomber Wing 33 in Büchel before completing the general staff service course at the command and control academy of the Bundeswehr .

Schütz then continued to work in Hamburg as a lecturer in air warfare and a tutor at the command academy, and from 1993 was transferred to Kalkar as a planning staff officer in the Reaction Forces Air Staff of NATO. From 1995 to 1997 he was commander of the flying group of Fighter Bomber Wing 31 in Nörvenich, 1997 to 1998 advisor for NATO, EU and armed forces planning in the air force command staff in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn and from 1998 to 1999 adjutant of the deputy general inspector and inspector of the central military services of the Bundeswehr .

In 2000 he took over the post of commodore with Fighter Bomber Wing 33 . Schütz then moved to Brussels as Head of the Nuclear Policy & Proliferation Division at the German NATO mission. From 2004 to 2006 he was employed as a department head for planning in the operational command of the air force in Kalkar, then the post of area manager for operations in the air force command in Cologne-Wahn . From 2008 to 2010 he was personal advisor and office manager of the parliamentary state secretary and today's agriculture minister Christian Schmidt in Berlin .

From 2010 to 2013 he was Chief of Staff of the Air Force Command and in 2013 became Deputy Commander of the Air Force Command and Commander of the Air Force Command and Command of the Air Force Command, from July 1 to September 24, 2015 in the Air Force Command. Schütz has been in command since September 24th.
