Helmut Sembdner

Helmut Sembdner (born January 27, 1914 in Posen ; † June 25, 1997 in Öschelbronn near Pforzheim ) was a German editor , literary scholar and teacher who is considered an important Heinrich von Kleist researcher. He is the namesake of the Kleist Sembdner archive in Heilbronn, which was built up from his collection.

Life

Helmut Sembdner attended from 1920 to 1928 in Berlin the Luisengymnasium Berlin and from 1928 to 1933 in Stuttgart , the Free Waldorf School in Stuttgart , which he left in 1933 with the Abitur. From 1933 to 1939 he studied German , history , philosophy , theater studies and newspaper studies at the University of Berlin . At this time he began to work with Kleist. He completed his studies with a doctorate in German and newspaper studies.

From 1939 to 1945 he was stationed as a soldier in various countries, such as Poland , the Netherlands and Italy . In 1944 he married the master photographer Johanna von Kamptz († 1996). The marriage resulted in a son born in 1947.

From 1945 to 1950 he was a teacher at an adult education center and then from 1950 to 1963 he worked as a full teacher at the Waldorf School in Stuttgart. At the same time he was from 1951 to 1963 editor-in- chief of the magazine Erziehungskunst of the Association of Free Waldorf Schools in Germany. From 1964 to 1977 he was an academic and senior counselor at the University of Stuttgart . In 1984 he was awarded the title of professor by the state of Baden-Württemberg in recognition of his literary work.

As a Kleist researcher, Helmut Sembdner did a lot to research the life and work of Heinrich von Kleist. The archive in Heilbronn is an important place for in-depth research on Kleist. In 1991 he sold his collection and offered the less valuable remaining pieces to the Berlin State Library , when the Berlin State Library waved them off, the city of Heilbronn acquired them.
