Henning Hildmann

Henning Hildmann (born January 5, 1939 in Frankfurt am Main ; † July 2, 2009 in Bochum ) was a German ENT doctor. From 1979 to 2004 he was founding director of the ENT department at the University Hospital of the Ruhr University in Bochum.

Life

Henning Hildmann was born on January 5, 1939 in Frankfurt am Main. After studying human medicine in Frankfurt am Main, Innsbruck and Düsseldorf , where he received his doctorate in 1965 , and training as an ENT specialist in Tübingen , he became a senior physician in Kiel and Aachen . Here he received his habilitation from Georg Schlöndorff in 1975 . January 15, 1979 the Ruhr-University Bochum appointed , he took over the newly established ENT department within the Bochum model in St. Elisabeth Hospital is a resident and he held until his retirement initiated in December of 2004. He died in a car accident on his way home from a medical congress at the age of 70.

Services

The ENT Department of the University Hospital of the Ruhr-University Bochum was Hildmann 5,000 procedures per year to the University Hospital with most ENT - Operations in North Rhine-Westphalia . About 800 of these operations are performed to improve hearing. In this area, Hildmann particularly committed: he founded in 1999, the cochlear implant -Zentrum Ruhr area in which interdisciplinary doctors , speech therapists , engineers , special educators and psychologists work together. The networking of the ENT clinic with other institutes includes the social pediatric center , the skull base center in Bochum in the Knappschaftskrankenhaus Langendreer and the sleep laboratory in Bergmannsheil . He has been the author or co-author of more than 200 medical publications.

In addition to his great leadership skills, his employees particularly valued his social skills with both patients and staff.

Development Assistance

In addition to scientific research and medical therapy, Hildmann was also involved in international cooperation: this began during his studies with his work as head of the department for foreign students and continued with the continuous support of young colleagues from developing countries as clinic director. He taught operations courses to colleagues from Eastern Europe, Asia and South America. This made it possible to improve the standards of patient care there. Hildmann received a. a. In 2002 he received an honorary doctorate from the Mongolian University of Ulaanbaatar . He was also a founding member and later an honorary member of the Spanish-German Society for ENT Medicine. In addition, Hildmann was an honorary member of the ENT societies in Bolivia, Slovakia, Poland and Mongolia and in the otology societies of Ukraine, India and Greece.

At the time of his death, he had just started a project to support ENT doctors in Rwanda, after having been surprised by the desolate situation in ENT medicine there during operations there.
