Henry Paget, 1st Earl of Uxbridge ( June 18, 1744 - March 13, 1812 ), was a British peer .

He was born Henry Bayly and was the eldest son of Sir Nicholas Bayly, 2nd Baronet (1709–1782), from his first marriage to Caroline Paget (1707–1766). His mother was a granddaughter of William Paget, 5th Baron Paget (1609–1678).

On the death of his second cousin Henry Paget, 2nd Earl of Uxbridge , he inherited the title 9th Baron Paget , of Beaudesert in the County of Stafford, created in 1553 in the Peerage of England on November 16, 1769 . As its general heir, he changed his family name from "Bayly" to "Paget" with a royal license on January 29, 1770. As Baron Paget, he was henceforth also a member of the British House of Lords .

In 1773 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Oxford . In 1778 he served with the rank of colonel in the Staffordshire Regiment of Militia . From 1782 he held the office of Lord Lieutenant of Anglesey .

When his father died on December 9, 1782, he inherited his title, created in 1730 in the Baronetage of Ireland, as 3rd Baronet , of Placenewyd in the County of Anglesey and Mount Bagenall in the County of Louth .

On May 19, 1784 he was raised in the Peerage of Great Britain to Earl of Uxbridge , in the County of Middlesex .

In 1785 he held the offices of Ranger of the Forest of Snowdon , Steward of Bardney and Constable of Carnarvon Castle . On April 14, 1785 he was accepted as a Fellow in the Society of Antiquaries . In 1790 he became Vice-Admiral of North Wales and Vice-Admiral of Pembrokeshire and Carmarthen . In 1801 he held the office of Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire.

On April 11, 1767 he married Jane Champagné (1742-1817), a daughter of the Very Rev. Arthur Champagné (1714-1800), dean of Clonmacnoise . With her he had twelve children, including his eldest son Henry (1768-1854), who distinguished himself as a general in the coalition wars, inherited his title of nobility in 1812 and was raised to Marquess of Anglesey in 1815 .
