Herbert Bockel

Herbert Bockel (born October 23, 1940 in Aradul Nou , Kingdom of Romania ) is a German Germanist , Romanianist , literary historian and university professor .

Life

Herbert Bockel was the son of the teacher and school councilor Michael Bockel and his wife Therese, née Cornet. From 1947 to 1954 he attended various educational institutions in Timișoara , from 1947 to 1954 the elementary school, from 1954 to 1957 the Nikolaus-Lenau-Lyzeum and from 1957 to 1962 the later West University , where he studied German and Romanian. After his state examination in 1962, he worked as a research assistant at the German department there until 1972 . From 1972 to 1981 he held lectures on modern German literature as a university lecturer . Bockel received his doctorate in 1979 on the subject of the development of the Romanian-German novel in the first half of the 20th century under Stefan Binder .

In the fall of 1981, Bockel was dismissed from the university because he had applied for an exit visa . He got a job at the High School for Philology and History in Timișoara, which also ended after six weeks because of the pending application to leave the country. In November 1983, Bockel and his family left for Passau in Eastern Bavaria .

At the University of Passau , Bockel initially worked in administration. He was later appointed head of the International Office and specialist representative for German as a foreign language at the language center . He retired on September 1, 2004.

Bockel published around 60 essays on the German language and literature , book reviews , reviews of performances at the German State Theater Timişoara and articles on the correct use of language in the German-speaking and Romanian -speaking press. He participated with German lessons and lectures on Banat and Romanian German literature in broadcasts on Radio Timișoara and Romanian television. Bockel presented numerous communications at scientific conferences in Romania and Germany.
