Herbert Bolliger

Herbert Bolliger (born November 23, 1953 in Wettingen ) is a Swiss manager . Until December 2017, he was CEO and President of the General Management of the Federation of Migros Cooperatives . He has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Metro AG since February 2018 .

Live and act

Bolliger, the son of a butcher, grew up in Wettingen in the canton of Aargau . After graduating from high school, he studied business administration at the University of Zurich with a licentiate degree . From 1980 to 1983 he worked at Bayer AG in Zurich as a department head, assistant director and head of goods procurement. In 1983 he moved to the Federation of Migros Cooperatives as area controller. In 1986/1987 he was controller and cash manager of the Portland Cement works in Siggenthal . Extra-occupationally, he obtained another diploma from the Controller Academy in Munich.

Bolliger returned to Migros in 1987, where he became Head of Finance / IT and a member of the management of the Migros Basel Cooperative . In 1994 he took over the management of IT at the Migros Group, before becoming managing director of the Migros Aare cooperative in 1997 .

In 2005, Bolliger was appointed managing director and president of the general management of the Federation of Migros Cooperatives . In addition, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Migros Bank AG and Hotelplan Holding AG , and he held other board memberships at Magazine zum Globus AG , Migros Beteiligungen AG, Denner AG and Interio AG . On January 1, 2018, he handed over the management to his successor Fabrice Zumbrunnen for reasons of age .

After Aldi and Lidl entered the Swiss market, Bolliger strengthened the Migros Group by taking over Denner. By 2015, Migros acquired the majority of Digitec Galaxus , the largest online retailer in Switzerland. In 2016, the parent company of the German Injoy Fitness was added.

Since then, Bolliger has been working as an independent management consultant. On February 16, 2018, he was elected to the Supervisory Board of Metro AG. Since January 2018 he has also been a member of the Conseil d'Administration of BNP Paribas .

Bolliger is married and has two grown daughters. After meeting Jo Siffert at the age of ten , he actually wanted to become a Formula 1 racing driver. During his studies he was an active handball player .
