Herbert Dallmann

Herbert Dallmann (born April 26, 1909 in Znin ; † January 13, 1996 in Merseburg ) was a German mathematician and university professor . In 1954 he was the first rector of the Technical University of Chemistry in Leuna-Merseburg and President of URANIA in the German Democratic Republic (GDR).

Life

Dallmann studied from 1929 to 1934 at the Universities of Göttingen , Hanover and Münster in various fields. In Göttingen he became in 1929 a member of the Göttingen Wingolf . From 1934 he was a student trainee in Berlin , Schwiebus and Wismar . In 1933 he joined the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP). Dallmann was a member of the National Socialist teachers' association .

1940 Dallmann was at Richard Baldus (and Frank Lobell ) at the Technical University of Munich with a thesis in the field of geometry "of hyperbolic space in the Euclidean plane figure" under the title of doctorate and was a lecturer for mathematics at the School of Engineering of Wismar . In 1940 he was drafted into the German Wehrmacht and fought in World War II until the end of 1945.

In 1946, Dallmann resumed teaching, in 1950 he joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and was director of the Wismar Engineering School from 1951 to 1952. From 1952 to 1954 Dallmann was a professor at the Pedagogical University in Potsdam .

In 1954, Dallmann became professor with a chair for higher mathematics, director of the institute of the same name and at the same time founding rector of the Technical University of Chemistry Leuna-Merseburg (THL-M). His successor in office was Eberhard Leibnitz in 1955 .

After the Third University Reform in the GDR in 1968, Dallmann was Deputy Director of the Mathematics, Cybernetics, and Data Processing Section of the THL-M.

In 1954, Dallmann was a co-founder, member of the executive committee and chairman of the Halle (Saale) district organization of the Society for the Dissemination of Scientific Knowledge, and from 1962 to 1971, as successor to Werner Rothmaler , President of the URANIA that emerged from it .

Dallmann is the author of various mathematical publications and various textbooks.
