Hermann David Salomon Corrodi (born July 23, 1844 in Frascati , Province of Rome , Italy , † January 30, 1905 in Rome , Italy) was an Italian painter and university professor of Swiss descent.

Life

Corrodi is the son of the Swiss painter and draftsman Salomon Corrodi . He began his art studies in Geneva with his brother Arnold Corrodi, among others with Alexandre Calame , but then went back to Rome to his father, who taught there at the Accademia di San Luca . At the end of his studies he went to Paris in 1872 .

1872 was also the year Corrodi was introduced to the Royal Family of England , who acquired some of his landscape paintings, his favorite subject. Other royal houses in Europe and the German nobility gave him orders. After the death of his brother Arnold in 1874, he stopped painting, but began painting again in 1876. In summer he lived and worked in Hamburg and Baden-Baden , in winter in Rome. Drawing and painting, he visited the Middle East with Syria and Egypt , traveled to many Mediterranean countries and even went to the Far East . Like his father, he taught at the Roman Accademia di San Luca.

Many of Corrodi's works are attributed to the style of Orientalism of the 19th century.
