Hermann Dürre

Hermann Christian August Konrad Dürre (born January 18, 1819 in Braunschweig ; † December 11, 1893 there ) was a German educator and historian .

Life

Dürre became a Christian as the son of the Braunschweig brewer and brewery owner. Drought born. He attended the Pro and Obergymnasium in Braunschweig from 1828 to 1838. After graduating, he studied theology , philology and history at the Universities of Göttingen and Leipzig . In 1847 he received his doctorate in Marburg . He returned to his hometown as a high school teacher and taught from 1846 to 1870 at the Martino-Katharineum and at the same time at the Collegium Carolinum . He then held director posts at high schools in Holzminden (1870-82) and until his retirement on January 1, 1889 in Wolfenbüttel . On this occasion he was awarded the title of school councilor .

Dürre's main work is the “History of the City of Braunschweig in the Middle Ages” , published in 1861 , which is still counted among the fundamental writings on the subject today. Dürre's extensive estate on the history of the city of Braunschweig is now in the Lower Saxony State Archives-State Archive in Wolfenbüttel.
