Hermann Otto Theodor Graedener (born May 8, 1844 in Kiel , † September 18, 1929 in Vienna ) was a German - Austrian composer .

Life

Hermann Graedener was trained by his father, the composer Carl Grädener . From 1862 he was organist at the Lutheran City Church in Vienna, from 1864 violinist in the court orchestra. From 1877 to 1913 he taught music theory at the conservatory . Between 1892 and 1896 he also worked as a conductor of the Vienna Singing Academy . He was one of the friends around Johannes Brahms .

He composed two operas , two symphonies , a comedy overture, the choral work "Der Spielmann" (with solo violin), a piano concerto, two violin and two cello concertos, chamber music works, including a string octet, two string quartets , two piano quintets , two piano trios , a violin sonata, a sonata for two pianos, piano pieces and songs .

In 1960 in Vienna-was Floridsdorf (21st district) Grädenergasse named after him and in 2003 the Graedenerweg .

Hermann Graedener is the father of the Austrian writer of the same name, Hermann Graedener .
