Hermann Joseph Weisbender

Hermann Joseph Weisbender (born February 24, 1922 in Cologne ; † February 13, 2001 in Dresden ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and vicar general in the diocese of Dresden-Meißen .

Life

After graduating from high school , Hermann Joseph Weisbender studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Pontifical Gregorian University from 1946 to 1953 and completed his studies with a licentiate in philosophy and theology . On October 10, 1952, he received the sacrament of ordination in Rome .

In 1953 Weisbender became chaplain at the provost church St. Johann Nepomuk in Karl-Marx-Stadt and in 1956 cathedral vicar at the cathedral St. Petri in Bautzen . In addition, he worked during this time as bishop secretary to Bishop Heinrich Wienken and as an associate professor. 1960 Bishop appointed him Otto Spülbeck for pastors in Wilsdruff and 1963 Ehrendomkapitular . In addition, Weisbender was one of the two companions of Spülbeck at the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 and had a major influence on the convening of the Meissen diocesan synod . In 1964 he became diocesan charity director and in 1970 ordinariate councilor. In 1974, Bishop Gerhard Schaffran appointed him pastor of Wechselburg and spiritual director of the St. Benno publishing house .

Pope Paul VI awarded him on May 23, 1975 the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness . In 1983 Gerhard Schaffran appointed him vicar general of the diocese of Dresden-Meißen and cathedral capitular . After Schaffran's retirement , the cathedral chapter elected him diocesan administrator for the period of the diocese vacancy in 1987/88 . Pope John Paul II also awarded him the honorary title of Apostolic Protonotary on September 9, 1987 . In 1988 Weisbender was appointed parish vicar of the parish vicarie Dresden- Pillnitz by Bishop Joachim Reinelt . In 1998 he retired due to age.

Hermann Joseph Weisbender died on February 13, 2001 in Dresden and was buried in the Old Catholic Cemetery in Dresden.
