Hermann Lothar Freiherr von Post († November 18, 1674 in Ensisheim , Alsace ) was a princely Münster general sergeant , landlord on Bosfeld (now part of Rheda-Wiedenbrück ), Emsink and Bockholt and Drost zu Twente .

His father was Adolf von Post († 1646) Drost von Rheda and Herr auf Bosfeld. His mother was Maria von Kanne's daughter of Dietrich von Kanne and Agnes von der Borgh .

Life

As early as 1647 he sold the Bosfeld estate to the Rittmeister Johannes von Zuchtbergen. Post initially served as a colonel in Austrian-Spanish military service, then he was a colonel on horseback in the army of Bishop Christoph Bernhard von Galen from Münster . In 1662 he asked the bishop to return home after reforming his regiment . Two years later he also took part as a colonel in the Imperial Army in the Turkish War of 1664 , where, according to a report by Reich Field Marshal Leopold Wilhelm von Baden-Baden , he had distinguished himself together with Colonel Johann Wilhelm Zobel zu Giebelstadt.

Later, as sergeant-general, he was in command of the Münster troops in the Dutch War of 1674 in Alsace. He died in the camp in Ensisheim and was buried in the Strasbourg cathedral, where there is also a statue of him. His successor as commander was General Gustav Wilhelm von Wedel .

He was married to Anna von Herding , the only daughter and heiress of Johann von Herding , landlord on Emsink, and Anna von Hoen . The couple had the following children:

The court marshal of Eleonora, Queen of Sweden Wilhelm Moritz (* 1625; † 1677 in the battle of Landskrona ), was married to Katharina von Schild and founded the Swedish line.
