Hermann Matthes (born February 16, 1901 in Cannstatt ; † May 15, 1976 in Mainz ) was a German politician ( CDU ).

Life

Matthes initially worked as a typesetter and later worked as a deacon. In 1929 he became head of the Evangelical Parish Office in Mainz.

In 1945, Matthes took part in the founding of the Christian Social People's Party (CSVP) in Mainz, which shortly thereafter became part of the newly founded CDU. Later he was deputy regional chairman of the CDU Rhineland-Palatinate . From 1946 to 1948 he was a city ​​councilor in Mainz and after 1946 also a member of the district council of Mainz . In 1947 he was elected as a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament, to which he was a member until his resignation on August 31, 1963. First he was deputy chairman and then from 1961 to 1963 chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. From 1963 to 1967 he served as State Secretary in the Ministry of Social Affairs of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate .

Matthes was initially a member of the Broadcasting Council of Südwestfunk (SWF) and was elected chairman in 1961.
