Hermann Reinhold

Hermann Reinhold (born November 13, 1893 in Lieberhausen ; † March 10, 1940 in Aschaffenburg ) was a German chemist and from 1936 to 1940 professor of physical chemistry in Giessen.

Life

On February 13, 1913, Reinhold passed the Abitur examination at the Hennebergisches Gymnasium in Schleusingen . From April 1, 1913, he was a one-year volunteer with the 19th Infantry Regiment of the Bavarian Army in Erlangen . As a non-commissioned officer and officer aspirant , he was released on March 31, 1914 from the reserve . After studying natural sciences in Halle in the summer semester of 1914 , Reinhold was called up at the beginning of August 1914 when the First World War broke out . With the 19th Infantry Regiment he stood at focal points on the Western Front until the end of the war . On April 1, 1915, he was promoted to Vice Sergeant in the Reserve and Deputy Officer. From 23 August 1915 he was lieutenant in the reserve and from 15 March 1918 first lieutenant in the reserve. He was awarded the Iron Cross, Class II and Class I, the Military Merit Order, Class IV, with swords and, after three wounds, the Silver Wound Badge .

After his discharge from army service on November 26, 1918, Reinhold continued his studies of chemistry, physics, mineralogy and philosophy in Erlangen in the winter semester of 1918/19. From the intermediate semester in 1919 he studied in Halle . In the same semester he joined the Association of German Students in Halle . In addition to his studies, he served as a time volunteer in the Reichswehr Brigade 16 in 1919/21 . During the Kapp Putsch in March 1920, he led the 2nd stiff company of the Freikorps Halle.

On July 26, 1922, he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD and joined the Association of German Chemists in 1923 . After completing his doctorate, Reinhold worked in companies in the chemical industry. From October 1, 1923, he became a scheduled assistant at the Institute for Physical Chemistry in Halle with Carl Tubandt . He completed his habilitation on May 24, 1928 in physical chemistry. He then taught in Halle as a private lecturer. On June 25, 1934 he was appointed associate professor with no civil service. After he had decided against an appointment at the TH Dresden, Reinhold took over the professorship from Karl Schaum at the University of Giessen and the management of the physico-chemical institute in November 1935 . On January 17, 1936, with effect from March 1, 1936, he was appointed full professor as Schaum's successor. At the same time he became director of the physico-chemical institute. Reinhold was Vice Dean of the Philosophical Faculty, 2nd Department from WS 1937/38 up to and including WS 1938/39. From 1939 he was dean of the SS. In the winter semester of 1939/40 he was also the university's representative at the German Research Foundation. He became a member of the Giessen University Society .

Reinhold joined the NSDAP on April 1, 1933 . In November 1933 Reinhold was also Rottenführer of the SA . From 1938 he was first lieutenant in the reserve with the 116th Infantry Regiment in Giessen . On December 1, 1938 he was promoted to captain of the reserve and served from August 28, 1939 as a company commander in the 116 Infantry Replacement Battalion in Marburg . On November 28, 1939, he was transferred to Frankfurt am Main as commander of the 1st Battalion of the newly established 379 Infantry Regiment .

Reinhold died on March 10, 1940 as a result of the operation of a kidney tumor on March 6 in a reserve hospital in Aschaffenburg.
