Life

Hermann Weyland was Professor of Geology and Paleontology at the University of Cologne . He was also a senior employee (department head) at Bayer AG . He lived in Wuppertal-Elberfeld and was chairman of the Wuppertal Natural Science Association . He became known with the finds and scientific work on the Wuppertal Devon flora . Along with Richard crimps it is describer of elberfeldense Asteroxylon , one after the site in Wuppertal- Elberfeld named Devonian Bärlapppflanze . Between 1937 and 1948 he wrote a seven-volume standard work on the plant fossils from the Rott ( Hennef ) site. Holdings of Rott fossils can be found in Bonn ( Goldfuß Museum ), Siegburg ( Siegburg City Museum ), Berlin, London and Los Angeles. Together with the paleobotanist and close friend Richard Kräusel , he deciphered the blueprints of many psilophytes (ancient ferns) in the 1920s . There was also a lively exchange with Gerhard Roselt , Professor of Paleobotany and Coal Geology at the Bergakademie Freiberg, as well as with Walther Gothan . With this he published the "Textbook of Paleobotany", which was published in several editions.

Honors

In 1957 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .
