Hermann Joseph Johann Adolf Martin Freiherr von Eichendorff (born August 30, 1815 in Berlin , Prussia ; † May 17, 1900 in Bonn , Province of Westphalia ) was a Prussian nobleman and lawyer as well as publisher , family researcher , son and biographer of Joseph von Eichendorff .

Life

Origin and education

The noble Catholic family of the Barons von Eichendorff had lived in Moravia and Silesia since the 17th century . The ancestor Hartwig Erdmann von Eichendorff came from Zerbow to Sedlnitz in Moravia and died in German Krawarn in 1683 . Joseph von Eichendorff, Hermann's father, married in April 1815 in Wroclaw with Aloysia von Larisch .

Hermann von Eichendorff spent his childhood in Berlin, Breslau, Danzig and Königsberg. He attended grammar schools in Königsberg and Berlin and studied law at the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Bonn . In 1839 he was an ausculator at the Danzig Regional and City Court and then as a trainee lawyer in Danzig.

Act

He worked as an assessor and auxiliary worker with the governments in Frankfurt an der Oder, Potsdam and Aachen. Since 1851 he was in Aachen as a legal assessor and then in 1859 as Councilor beamtet in Aachen. In 1882 he was appointed Privy Councilor , dismissed and moved to Bonn.

After his father's death in November 1857, he contacted his aunt Luise von Eichendorff , who lived in Baden near Vienna, and asked her for memories from her childhood and youth at Lubowitz Castle . On May 25, 1859, on the initiative of his aunt, the sonnet of Joseph von Eichendorff's Germany's future savior appeared in the Wiener Zeitung .

In 1864 Hermann von Eichendorff published his father's biography and all of his works in six volumes in Leipzig. Another part of the father's writings was published in 1866 by the Ferdinand Schöningh publishing house in Paderborn .

Hermann von Eichendorff not only made corrections to the spelling and punctuation, but also intervened in some cases in the substance of the text, especially with the volume of poems and bequests. In 1923 the new editions appeared in Leipzig, which were revised by his son Karl von Eichendorff and Wilhelm Kosch .

Hermann von Eichendorff married on June 24, 1856 in Honnef with Klara Henriette Bernhardine Simonis (1826-1908). The marriage had eight children:
