Hermann of the Borne

Hermann Gotthelf Kreuzwendedich von dem Borne (born September 19, 1850 in Haynau , † October 17, 1923 in Rudolstadt ) was a Prussian officer , most recently lieutenant general .

Life

origin

He came from the Brandenburg aristocratic family von dem Borne and was the son of the Prussian major Albert von dem Borne (1804-1883) and his second wife Mathilde, born von Waldow (1815-1867). His younger brother was the later infantry general Kurt von dem Borne .

Military career

Coming from the cadet corps, Borne joined the 5th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 48 of the Prussian Army on April 7, 1868 as a second lieutenant . With this regiment he took part in the war against France in 1870/71 and was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class. In February 1875 he was promoted to prime lieutenant and in March 1883 to captain . As such, he was transferred to the 3rd Posensche Infantry Regiment No. 58 and on August 22, 1891 came on foot as a major in the 2nd Guards Regiment . From March 25, 1893 to April 28, 1896 Borne acted as commander of the 1st battalion of the infantry regiment "Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia" (2nd Magdeburg) No. 27 in Halberstadt. He was then appointed director of the Glogau War School and in this position he became lieutenant colonel on June 17, 1897 . On March 29, 1900, Borne returned to the service and was promoted to colonel to command the infantry regiment “Prince Moritz von Anhalt-Dessau” (5th Pomeranian) No. 42 . Released from this post on April 17, 1903, he became major general and commander of the 1st Infantry Brigade in Königsberg . On April 14, 1907, he was promoted to lieutenant general. Shortly afterwards, on May 2, 1907, Borne was granted a retirement pension .

He was u. a. Holder of the Red Eagle Order II. Class with Oak Leaves and the Crown Order II. Class.

family

Borne married on June 4, 1881 in Küstrin Martha von Linstow (* 1856 in Magdeburg ; † March 9, 1934 in Rudolstadt). The marriage had five children. The eldest son Fritz died at the beginning of the First World War as a company commander in the Grand Ducal Mecklenburg Grenadier Regiment No. 89 near Bertrix . The second oldest son fell in the same year as a company commander in the infantry regiment "Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia" (2nd Magdeburgisches) No. 27 during the storming of Liège . The third son Arndt fell off Soissons in 1915 .
