The Lords von Scheidt called Weschpfennig were resident in the Bergisches Land and were raised to the status of imperial barons in 1642 .

origin

The von Weschpfennig family, widespread in the Cologne and Jülich area , which also took part in the Battle of Worringen , acquired an estate "Scheidt" near Schönenberg (Ruppichteroth) in the middle of the 14th century and then named themselves after this, but kept the nickname Weschpfennig. Further acquisitions were made in Ruppichteroth Wingenbach, Bröl (Herrenbröl / Weschpfennigsbröl), Hover Bach and in Düsseldorf Heltorf .

history

In the Siegburg document book a Johan von Bülgenauel is mentioned in 1387 . Johann was also known as Johan von Scheyde, called von Burchenauwe, and is the first member of the "von Scheidt called Weschpfennig" family. He lived in Bülgenauel with his wife Agnes and stepchildren Johan and Christina, who were called von Hunnenberg / von Hondenberg . Johann vom Scheide and his wife sell 20 Malter rye from their farm at "Bulgenauwel" to "Aillfe vam Steinhaus called Muge" (Adolf von Steinhaus called Much) on February 24, 1407. The seal of Johann vom Scheide shows three in the coat of arms above Slices probably: white pennies; it is the well-known seal of the von Scheid (t) family, which later appears under the (additional) name "Weschpfennig".

Engelbrecht vom Scheyde called Weschpfennig was probably born in Scheid in 1402 and married Barbara Elisa Mirbach in 1434 at Haus Bürgel. In 1438 he was mentioned as Vogt and Mayor of Much . After participating in the Hubertus Battle in 1442, he received the Order of Hubert and from Duke Gerhard von Jülich-Berg the whole husband in the parish of Ruppichteroth with the fiefdom of Schönenberg and the fiefdom of Durchhausen for him and his heirs . Engelbert von Scheidt called Weschpfennig died in 1469.

Engelbert's eldest son Johann, born in 1441, married Agnes Anna Sabina von der Leyen auf Leyen (probably in Engelskirchen). He died in 1498 on Gut Bröl.

1470 was a Wilhelm von Scheidt called Weschpfennig Rentmeister zu Blankenberg .

From 1474 to 1617 the family was enfeoffed with the Freusburg , after which there were deviations in the succession and finally due to this there was a lawsuit, which in 1841 the Court of Appeal and Cassation in Berlin, in 1903 the Higher Regional Court in Frankfurt, in 1928 the Prussian Ministry of Agriculture and in 1932 the Prussian Landtag employed.

Johann Heinrich von Scheidt called Weschpfennig was born on Scheid in 1476. He married Jutta von Seelbach zu Menden in 1511 and died in Scheid in 1544. His brother Engelbert was born in 1479 and was lord of Bröl and bailiff of Blankenberg . He and his wife Anna von Schnellenberg zu Schönholzhausen founded the chapel at Ruppichteroth- Schönenberg and, according to the inscription there, died in 1546.

The son Rorich von Scheidt called Weschpfennig was born in 1518 and married Anna von Kaldenbach zu Overbach bei Much in 1541 . He died in 1565. The other sons Gerhard Gottfried and Johann died in Hungary in 1542 and 1544 in the war against the Turks .

Barons

In 1632, the Bergische Marshal, chamberlain and bailiff of Angermund and Landsberg Baron Johann Bertram Weschpfennig von Scheidt is Duke Wolfgang von Jülich-Berg's envoy to Deutz , which has just been conquered by Sweden under General Wolf Heinrich von Baudissin , in order to ensure neutrality. On January 27, 1642, "Johann Bertram Weschpfennig von Scheidt" by Emperor Ferdinand III. raised to the hereditary status of an imperial baron. Johann Bertram lived at Heltorf Castle in Düsseldorf-Angermund . He married Margarethe Tengnagel (* around 1593) in 1615. Both died around 1662.

Baron Philipp Wilhelm von Scheidt called Weschpfennig joined the Austrian army in 1690. He became captain in 1716, sergeant-major in 1721 and colonel in 1733. He took part in several campaigns. 1690 to 1697 against the Turks during the siege of Belgrade and the battle at Zenta , 1716/1717 during the campaigns at Peterwardein, Temesvor and Belgrade. Until his death he held the command post in Radolfzell .

coat of arms

The gate coat of arms of Düsseldorf, Altestadt 14

The family's coat of arms shows a shield divided by a golden bar, which has three blue disks with a golden border (probably coins) at the top in the silver and is black at the bottom. On some branches of the family, three pinnacles pierce the dividing beam from below. The coat of arms can still be seen in Düsseldorf , Altestadt 14 , above the courtyard entrance. The house belonged to Baron Johann Bertram von Scheidt called Weschpfennig. In 1626 he had acquired it as a town house for 1,700 Reichstaler from Anna Staut, the widow of the licentiate Adolph Steinhaus. The coat of arms on the right is that of the Tengnagel family.
