action

The writer Peter Petroni is the reigning King Michael XXXVII. a thorn in the side, because he often publishes writings in which he depicts the king as a man of pleasure and bon vivant, who also suffers from alcohol . When these writings finally go too far for the king, he decreed by virtue of his office that Peter Petroni may no longer publish any writings.

The plot of the film takes a turn when the king again over-favors alcohol. When he then forgets his own wedding date, his police minister tries to limit the damage: He asks the writer Peter Petroni, who looks very much like the king, to take over the role of the king at the wedding ceremony.

Despite the ban on the publication of his writings, Peter Petroni agrees and stands in front of the altar together with the king's bride, Princess Carola. When he saw her there for the first time, however, he was torn from her. For him it's love at first sight.

Reviews

“Frivolous love and mistaken comedy in the operetta style. An unsuitable attempt to revive the German dream factory after 1945 with sparse post-war equipment and even sparse charm. "

“The post-war comedy gets off to a slow start. There is a lack of lust, play, charm and humor. "

Remarks

One of the most famous German actors of the 20th century, Georg Thomalla , embodies the lieutenant in the film. Thomalla achieved the ultimate breakthrough in the film industry when television established itself as a mass medium in Germany.
