HIGER BUS Company Ltd. (short: HIGER ) is a Chinese manufacturer of travel , urban and minibuses and pick-ups . The company, which was only founded in 1998, is part of the King Long Group and has an annual production capacity of 35,000 buses.

history

The company HIGER BUS Company Ltd. was founded in December 1998 in Suzhou Prefecture of Jiangsu Province . Around 1,000 vehicles were manufactured in the first year of production; 2005 already more than 10,000.

Higer is an export-oriented company: For example, in 2006 , 500 buses were delivered for the 15th Asia Games in Doha , ( Qatar ). In the following year 1,000 vehicle buses were exported to Russia; In addition, exports to South America were increased.

Since September 2006 comfort coaches of the model SCANIA HIGER A 80 have been produced in cooperation with the Swedish bus manufacturer Scania ; The chassis comes largely from Scania, while Higer manufactures the body . In 2008 this model passed the rollover tests newly introduced by the European Union. In March 2007, the production of a further cooperation project was started with the luxury coach SCANIA-HIGER A90 . With this vehicle, Higer was voted the coach manufacturer with the best safety equipment at the Shanghai Asia Exposition in 2007 and 2008 ( Best Safety Equipment ).

After 20,000 vehicles were sold in one year for the first time in 2010, the expansion of the production line to include dip painting was completed in 2011 with an investment volume of 200 million RMB .

Like most export-oriented companies in China, Higer is increasing its sales activities in Africa: In Algeria, the second largest automobile market in Africa (after South Africa), 2,258 vehicles were sold by 2011. In the same year sales activities began in Morocco, Libya and Tunisia. Higer has been the market leader in the bus business in Angola since 2012 . In Ethiopia, Higer was able to prevail against competitors in a state tender in 2011 and sold 502 midibuses, further sales activities exist in Ghana and Zambia as well as in Sudan.

For Higer , as for many other Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturers, Africa is now a traditional sales market from which European automotive companies are largely withdrawing and Japanese manufacturers are increasingly being displaced.

Group structure

HIGER BUS is a subsidiary of holding company Xiamen King Long United Automotive Industry Company Ltd. , King Long for short , one of the largest bus manufacturers in the world. The bus manufacturer Golden Dragon also belongs to this company .

At the Suzhou location, there is a production facility on a company site with around 800,000 m 2 . The production capacity is given as 35,000 vehicles per year; a total of more than 6,000 people are employed (as of 2013). The company also runs a research center for post-graduate students , the Jiangsu Region Technology Center and a newly created R&D center for coaches.

The company also participates in fundraising campaigns for earthquake-hit regions in China, most recently in the Wenchuan earthquake that left nearly 6 million people homeless.
