Content (Anime)

While the student Takashi Komuro ( 小 室 孝 , Komuro Takashi ) mourns his childhood love , Rei Miyamoto ( 宮本 麗 , Miyamoto Rei ), because she broke her promise and goes out with his best friend, he observes a strange incident at the entrance to Tokyo’s Fujimi High School. In this case, the teachers who want to keep a man away from the school grounds are ignorantly bitten by a zombie and turn themselves into zombies. He can hardly believe what is going on, so he rushes back to the classroom and urges his closest friends to leave school. In this way, Takashi, Rei and their friend Hisashi gain the necessary head start before a mass panic breaks out at school . On the run, however, there is an incident in which Hisashi, underestimating the power of zombies, is bitten by one. So they first save themselves on the roof of the school to barricade themselves there. But there is no more help for Hisashi. After a while he also mutates into a zombie and Takashi is forced to kill him in front of the eyes of Rei, who at first feels deep hatred towards Takashi, but then recognizes him as a good friend. As you can see from the roof of the school, the entire city seems to have become a battlefield.

The chairwoman of the Kendō Club Saeko Busujima ( 毒 島 冴 子 , Busujima Saeko ), who can fight off the zombies with a Bokutō and good fighting technique, also survived . On her way through the school, she comes to the aid of the big-breasted but sometimes absent-minded school doctor Shizuka Marikawa ( 鞠 川 静香 , Marikawa Shizuka ). Together they try to go to the staff room to get the keys to an escape vehicle. At the same time, the fat gun fanatic Kōta Hirano ( 平野 コ ー タ , Hirano Kōta , based on the mangaka of the same name , who recommended Shōji Satō as a draftsman for this manga) and the intelligent, but behaving like a Tsundere , Saya Takagi ( 高 城 沙耶 , Takagi Saya ) through the school building quite aimlessly. Kōta uses weapons he made himself, such as a bolt-firing device that has been converted into a rifle . Meanwhile, Saya uses her time to experiment with the zombies. So she comes to the realization very early that they can neither see nor feel, but react to noises. In doing so, however, they find themselves in an ambush and make themselves loud so that they can get help from the other survivors. In this way, all six main characters manage to reach the staff room. Through a still functioning television they learn that not only the school and its surroundings are affected, but the whole world is infested by the zombies.

So all six decide to form a team and save as many people as possible. To do this, they leave school and help some students who have not yet been infected. Among them, however, is also the teacher Kōichi Shidō ( 紫藤 浩 一 , Shidō Kōichi ), who is frowned upon by Rei because of his selfish, devious and despicable behavior. For example, he deliberately injures one of the students while on the run in order to take advantage of it, which leads to the certain death of the student. Together with a few other survivors, they manage to escape from school by bus. However, Kōichi tries directly to usurp command, which causes Rei to leave the bus. Another bus that has gotten out of control separates Rei and Takashi, who tries to appease her, and are left on their own. Soon afterwards, the other members also left Shidō, who established a sect, and were finally able to reunite after having to go through some more dramatic events. They finally find shelter in the abandoned apartment of Shizuka's friend and sniper of a police special unit Rika Minami ( 南 リ カ , Minami Rika ). In keeping with their profession and illegal arms imports, they find plenty of ammunition and an armored vehicle there. During the stay, Takashi observed both the dramatic scenes that took place on the bridge, which was closed by the police, and the death of the father of a young girl. He decides to save her and, thanks to the support of his friends, succeeds too. Alice Maresato ( 希 里 あ り す , Maresato Arisu ) has accompanied the group since then .

On the search for a way to their hopefully still living relatives, however, they are caught in an ambush that almost forces them to give up, as they cannot control the overwhelming numbers of zombies. Both Takashi and Saeko decide on a diversionary maneuver, but only partially succeeds. The blockade behind them, however, was set up by the subordinates of Saya's parents, who eventually rush to help, while Takashi and Saeko are now on their own. In her search for another way to fix it, Saeko Takashi confesses that she has a dark past and a sadistic side. However, Takashi can convince her that she is a good person and a great girl. Both can make their way to the villa of Saya. Once there, however, they are not treated like adults, but labeled as children. In addition, Saya's father Sōichirō Takagi ( 高 城 壮 一郎 , Takagi Sōichirō ) is the leader of a violent right-wing extremist group , with which Takashi and his companions find it very difficult to make friends. Gradually, however, they succeed in asserting themselves and also in the eyes of Sōichirō to gain in value. He gives Saeko a sword and entrusts his daughter to the group.

Just when they decide to form a search party to find their relatives, the US launched a first nuclear strike against China and North Korea, which the other states responded to. The released EMP renders all electronic devices unusable and this enables the zombies to penetrate the villa grounds and overrun the defenders. Saya's parents and some servants allow the group around Takashi to escape and they decide to continue looking for their parents and friends together.
