Thomas Asanger
Thomas Asanger (born November 8, 1988 in Linz ) is an Austrian composer and conductor .
Live and act
Thomas Asanger, son of Franz Asanger and his wife Monika, lives in Perg and graduated from the federal high school there in 2007 .
He received his musical training first in the subjects of bassoon , piano , solfeggio and music theory . From 2005 to 2008 he continued this in composition with Helmut Schmidinger . After graduating from high school, he did military service with the Upper Austria Military Music . Asanger studied German philology at the University of Vienna as well as music education (Mag. Art.) Majoring in choral conducting with Alois Glaßner at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . From 2013 to 2017 he studied vocal pedagogy there.
In the 2011/12 season, Asanger assisted the production of Les contes d'Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach in the “Jugend an der Wien” series at the Theater an der Wien . 2012/13 he worked as musical assistant of Raphael Schluesselberg in et Béatrice Bénédict by Hector Berlioz worked. As an arranger he is responsible for the arrangements of the Vienna Brass Connection. From 2014 to 2018 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Analysis, Theory and History of Music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . Since 2015 he has been teaching the wind orchestra ensemble at the Upper Austrian State Music School and since 2019 at the Institute for Music Education at the University of Art in Graz .
In addition to his work as a composer and arranger , he acts as a speaker at advanced training courses and as a juror at various orchestral competitions, including the Summa cum laude - International Youth Festival in Vienna at the Wiener Musikverein . Asanger has been the regional music director of the Upper Austrian brass band since 2019 .

- 2009: “ Composer in Residence ” grant from the Upper Austria Chamber of Commerce
- 2007: Talent grant from the Federal Ministry for Education, Art and Culture
Works (selection)
Most of his works for symphonic wind orchestra can be classified as program music. In 2008 his first compositions were published by OrchestralArt Music Publications. In 2009 he was signed by the Dutch Tierolff publishing house, since 2012 with the music publishing house Rundel (Rot an der Rot). Since then they have been performed worldwide and recorded on CD by renowned orchestras from around the world, including the Bundeswehr Music Corps , the Belgian Hageland Wind Orchestra, The Washington Winds, the Belgian Air Force Orchestra and the Army Music Corps Middle of the Japanese Army.
