Hilgershausen is a district of Bad Sooden-Allendorf in the Werra-Meißner district in northern Hesse .

Geographical location

The place is about five kilometers west of the core town of Bad Sooden-Allendorf in the geo-nature park Frau-Holle-Land (Werra Valley, Meissner, Kaufunger Wald) at about 270  m above sea level. Above sea level. The lowest point of the Hilgershausen district is 240  m above sea level. NHN , the highest point on the Vollungssattel at about 500  m above sea level. NHN . Just south of Hilgershausen the Duden Bach and unite Ottersbach to Oberrieder Bach , a tributary of the Werra . Neighboring towns are Kammerbach in the east-southeast and Dudenrode in the southwest.

history

Hilgershausen was first mentioned in a document in 1283 as the property of the Germerode monastery . Others give the year 1093 as the date of the first documentary mention. The place belonged to the Hessian office Ludwigstein / Witzenhausen until 1821 and then to the district of Witzenhausen . During the French occupation, the place belonged to the canton of Sooden in the Kingdom of Westphalia (1807-1813).

Territorial reform

On December 31, 1971, the place was incorporated into the city of Bad Sooden-Allendorf as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

  • Today's Protestant church is a hall made of red sandstone and was built in 1771. A font from 1597 suggests the existence of a previous building. The portal of the church is on the south side in the middle of the three window axes, the tower over the western front is slated. The organ was created in 1840–1841 by the organ builder Eobanus Friedrich Krebaum from Eschweg .
  • Between Hilgershausen and Kammerbach lies the Hohlstein cave , one of the largest cave areas in Hesse.
