course

The Ottersbach, which flows entirely in the Frau-Holle-Land Geo-Naturpark (Werratal.Meißner.Kaufunger Wald) rises on the northern flank of the Hoher Meissner ( 753.6  m above sea  level ). Its source is 1.3 km west-north-west of the Frankenhain, which is remote from the stream, at around 495  m in the mountain meadows . The district road  51 (coal road) leads past the source, which branches off about 120 m southeast of the state road  3242 between Kammerbach and the Kalbe , then runs past the former lignite mine Bransrode and from there to Weißenbach .

The stream initially flows about 2 km in a north-easterly direction in the Soodener Bergland on the south-east flank of the Wickenberg ( 446  m ) and its north-east slope Bramberg ( 370  m ), turns north shortly after passing the Ottersbach desert and then flows to about 1.2 km in length west of the Hämmelsberg ( 351.8  m ) in the direction of Hilgershausen .

About 500 m south of Hilgershausen, the Ottersbach joins immediately south and before crossing under the L 3239 and east of the L 3240 (Oberrieder Straße) that branches off there to the north at about 258  m with the Dudenbach to the Oberrieder Bach , which after another 6.9 km after flowing through of Oberrieden in the Werra opens .
