Family quarrel de Luxe (original title: The War at Home ) is an American comedy television series created by Rob Lotterstein , which ran in the Wednesday night program on ORF one and in the evening program on SF two . The first episode in Germany was broadcast on October 28, 2006 on RTL . RTL II broadcast the series under the title Hinterm Sofa an der Front .
action
Dave and Vicky live with their three children Hillary, Larry and Mike together in Long Iceland ( New York ). Dave is a medium-sized Jewish insurance salesman . Being a stubborn , paranoid , overprotective father , his family has trouble putting up with him, especially Larry, whom Dave always picks up and even hits once because he is constantly teased by him. Towards the end of the first season, however, it becomes clear that Dave is acting this way because his own father kept bothering him. Dave is married to Vicky, an attractive Catholic interior designer . Basically, she's a very sensible person who grapples with Dave's bad arguments and behavior, but she too can misbehave every now and then.
The eldest of her three children is Hillary, a typical 17-year-old teenager who often does things she shouldn't do and tries to do them behind her parents' backs. So Dave and Vicky usually treat them with suspicion . The second oldest of the kids is 16 year old Larry, an eccentric outsider . Larry acts melodramatically , such as when Vicky doesn't allow him to see Brian Boitano as Bilbo Baggins in the Ice Capades version of The Lord of the Rings on Ice. He spends most of his time with his best friend Kenny, which gives Dave reason to think he might be gay. However, it is later revealed that Larry is not gay, but that Kenny is secretly in love with his best friend. Dave and Vicky, to a lesser extent, treat Larry's extravagance with care. The youngest child is the pubescent 14-year-old Mike, who has to deal with topics such as masturbation , love and gambling with his father . His mother Vicky even smoked during pregnancy , supposedly to keep him down in his opinion.
The last episode ends with a rather open ending, with Hillary graduating from high school, which makes Dave's ardent wish come true for the first child to leave the house. At that moment, Vicky becomes pregnant again because the two no longer used contraception - believing that the other had been sterilized.
particularities
A noticeable specialty of the series are well-rehearsed interludes. The action is repeatedly interrupted by short scenes in which one of the characters comments on the event. Often this will reveal the real intent behind a particular statement.
Also unusual for a sitcom is that actions from one episode are often revisited in later episodes.
Charisma
RTL broadcast 16 of the 22 episodes of the first season under the title Family dispute de Luxe . Due to poor audience ratings, the series was withdrawn from the program prematurely. ORF Eins has also broadcast the seasons weekly since April 11, but stopped broadcasting after a few episodes of the second season. Even the Swiss television took War at Home in the program and sends both seasons with repetition of 29 October 2007 to 10 March 2008 daily. Since spring 2008, ORF 2 has been repeating the series in its Wednesday night program. On May 17th, 2007 the broadcaster FOX announced the cancellation; so there is no further season. From January 7, 2009, RTL II broadcast the series again under the new title Hinterm Sofa an der Front . Since September 28, 2013 Tele 5 has been showing the sitcom under the original title on Saturdays in double episodes.
