Histoire tragique avec fin heureuse (Eng. About tragic story with a happy ending ) is an animated short film by Regina Pessoa from 2005. It was made in a French-Canadian-Portuguese co-production. Alternative titles are Tragic Story With Happy Ending and História trágica com final feliz .

action

A girl lives in a village. It is unhappy because its heart beats faster and louder than that of other people. The people in the village are also dissatisfied, because the girl's loud heartbeat does not let them sleep. The girl explains in vain that she has a bird's heart, that is actually a bird in human form. One day she flees the village in despair, but returns.

Over time, people get used to the loud heartbeat and even live to the rhythm of this beat. The girl also makes friends with his body. One day she develops wings and flies out of her room and disappears. The people of the village are surprised because they don't know whether the girl was born again or died. Life in the village goes on, but more irregular and boring.

production

Regina Pessoa had the idea for the short film Histoire tragique avec fin heureuse while studying art at the University of Porto , which she finished in 1998 . She was inspired by a study project in which she worked with engraving and screen printing . In 2001 Pessoa presented the project at the Festival d'Animation Annecy as part of the Espace Project , where it was awarded three prizes. Like Pessoa's film debut A Noite from 1999, Histoire tragique avec fin heureuse was animated in engraving. In contrast to A Noite , which was made by plaster engraving, Pessoa realized Histoire tragique avec fin heureuse in Indian ink on glossy paper, which was subsequently scratched in with a knife. This gave her very hard and high-contrast lines. The film was made in black and white.

The film was made as part of Folimage's artist-in-residence program . Other producers of the film were Arte France, Ciclope Films and the National Film Board of Canada . The narrator of the film is Manuela Azevedo . The short film, completed in 2005, was shown at the Festival d'Animation Annecy (2006) and the Hiroshima Kokusai Animation Festival (2006).

Awards

Histoire tragique avec fin heureuse won a total of 26 international prizes. In 2006 the film was awarded the Cristal d'Annecy of the Festival d'Animation Annecy. In 2006 he won the film prize in the animation category of the Caminhos do Cinema Português film festival in Coimbra and the special prize of the jury of the Hiroshima Kokusai Animation Festival . At the Lutins du court métrage in 2006 the film received a Lutin in the category "Best Animated Film". The film was nominated for a Genie Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2007.
