Hjalmar Johan Fredrik Procopé (born August 9, 1889 in Stockholm , † March 8, 1954 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish politician of the Swedish People's Party and diplomat . He served as a minister several times in the 1920s and 30s.

Life

From 1915 to 1922 Procopé worked as a lawyer in Helsinki. From the spring of 1918 until the end of the same year he was employed in the Finnish embassy in Berlin . As a member of the Swedish People's Party, he was elected to the House of Representatives for the years 1919 to 1922 and 1924 to 1926.

From 1920 to 1921 he headed the Ministry of Trade and Industry under Prime Minister Rafael Erich . In 1924 he worked in the same position under Aimo Kaarlo Cajander . From 1924 to 1925 he was Foreign Minister under Lauri Ingman ; an office that he would keep from 1927 to 1931. In between he was Finland's ambassador in Warsaw from 1924 to 1926 .

His son Victor Procopé was later also a member of the House of Representatives. A poet named Hjalmar Fredrik Eugen Procopé (1868–1927) was the cousin of the politician of the same name.
