Hof an der Steinach is a district of the Mitwitz market in the Upper Franconian district of Kronach in Bavaria . Hof was part of the former municipality of Hofsteinach , which consisted of the districts Steinach an der Steinach and Hof an der Steinach. The place was named after the Steinach river . Floods are sometimes to be expected twice a year, building measures to prevent them are planned.

history

It was first mentioned in 1291 when Iring von Kunstadt sold the tithe given to the Lords of Lichtenfels to the Sonnefeld monastery . From the 14th century, the von Schaumberg family owned the estate, which they had received as a fief from the Michelsberg monastery . In a state treaty from 1811 negotiated between Bavaria's Prime Minister Maximilian von Montgelas and Prince Leopold von Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld , Hof Sachsen-Coburg was awarded.

On January 1, 1970, the communities Hof an der Steinach and Steinach an der Steinach formed the new community Hofsteinach in the Coburg district .

Hofsteinach was reclassified on July 1, 1972 from the Coburg district to the Kronach district. On January 1, 1974, the community Hofsteinach was dissolved and incorporated into the market Mitwitz in the district of Kronach.
