The village of Hohenstein is part of the Central Franconian community of Kirchensittenbach in the Hersbrucker Alb . The place is located on the Hohensteiner Berg and has about 150 inhabitants. In the western part of the local area, Hohenstein Castle, 624 meters above sea level, is a half-ruin. After Auernheim on the Hahnenkamm , Hohenstein is the second highest village in Middle Franconia .
history
The administrator of the Hohenstein nursing office, appointed by the imperial city of Nuremberg , resided on the castle above the town . According to the Bavarian municipal edict of May 17, 1818, Hohenstein was initially founded as an independent municipality in what was then the Hersbruck Regional Court. According to the government rescript of September 29, 1824, however, due to its small population, the place was finally assigned to the municipality of Algersdorf.
traffic
At the western foot of the Hohensteiner Berg, state road 2246 (Hormersdorf junction) leads through the Sittenbach valley . In local traffic, Hohenstein is served by bus route 338 of Omnibusverkehr Franken from Hersbruck via Kirchensittenbach.
The Franconian Marienweg runs through the village .
tourism
The place is the crossing point of numerous hiking trails, which are mostly looked after by the Franconian Alb Association . In the snowy winter months, Hohenstein is also a small winter sports area. The second longest ski slope in the Nuremberg area begins directly on the eastern edge of the village . The tourist infrastructure is supplemented by two restaurants.
Culture
The aim of the association "Alte Schule Hohenstein - Association for the Promotion of Art and Culture eV" is to promote international and national artists and cultural workers.
