Hoher Stein (Fichtel Mountains)
The Hohe Stein is a group of rocks at the northeast foot of the mountain head , part of the Waldstein range in the Fichtel Mountains .
Appearance and location
The Hohe Stein has a height of about 25 m, the highest point is 817 m above sea level. NHN . It is a granite rock in wool sack weathering . Iron ladders lead to the viewing platform on the rock, the rock is designated as a climbing rock .
It is located west of the town of Kirchenlamitz and northeast of the Großer Waldstein in the forest district of Hallersteiner Forst Süd. Although the Hohe Stein is not far from the Kleiner Waldstein , another rock formation, it can only be reached via detours. In addition to the Lamitz spring , the sights of the Epprechtstein are in the immediate vicinity.
History as a landmark
Today the rock lies on the border of the Upper Franconian districts of Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge and Hof . The political border between the Sechsämterland and the Landsmannschaft Hof used to run there , as can be seen in the Landbuch der Sechsämter from 1499 (see also Brandenburg-Kulmbach ). The ecclesiastical border between the dioceses of Bamberg and Regensburg also ran across the ridge .
On the west side, the Hohenzollern coat of arms (32 cm wide, 38 cm high) and two crosses (20 cm × 20 cm) are carved into the rock . There is also a cross on the east side and an arrow pointing upwards.
