The Hohwald is 552.8  m above sea level. NHN high and completely wooded mountain in the Odenwald and is located in the northwestern tip of the Schloßau district on the western border of the municipality of Mudau in the Neckar-Odenwald district in Baden-Württemberg , only about 400 meters from the state border to Hesse , the northwest of it before Hesselbach at the beginning of the ascent on the ridge line of the Hohen Langhaele ( 548.3  m ).

The Neckar-Odenwald-Limes leads over the Hohwald , of which two watchtowers can still be found as ground memorials on the hilltop, one in the north and one in the southeast. On the Hohwald, the Limes shows a remarkable deviation from the straight lines customary for the Romans. Coming from the north from the Hohen Langhaele , it turns east to reach the ridge of the Heidenberg . The Neckar-Odenwald-Limes reaches its highest point on the Hohwald. Even in our time, the Limes is still important here as a border, insofar as the district boundary between Schloßau and the northeastern adjacent Mörschenhardt follows its course.

The hilltop of the Hohwald has the shape of a rectangle with rounded edges and initially gently sloping slopes on all sides. The 550 meter line circumscribes an area of around three hectares. The Hohwald is followed by the two mountain ranges already described, over which the Limes also leads and finally a narrow mountain ridge about 1400 meters long and south, which culminates in the Sachsenberg ( 499.3  m ) and then steep on three sides falls into valleys that are sometimes more than 200 meters deep: to the west to the Itterbach , to the south to the Galmbach and to the southeast to the water bottom . These valleys are traffic arteries for regional road traffic.
