The CB 100 was designed as a replacement for the S 90, which looked too similar to the fifties. The cylinder is tilted forward 20 degrees. The piston speed is at 10,500 min -1 17.3 m / s. Shortly before the appearance of the CB 100, this value was regarded as a limit value that should only be exceeded on racing machines. The engine, however, despite the high speeds from 6,000 rpm -1 driveable. Thanks to the well-coordinated gearbox, the CB 100 can be accelerated to 100 km / h within 21 to 22 seconds. The low weight in connection with the revving engine made it a “really fast motorcycle” for the time. The top speed was around 110 km / h. The full name of the model is Honda CB 100 Super Sports .

The small four-stroke engine has a specific output of 115 hp / l (85 kW / l). For comparison: A Honda CB 750 Four (1969) has a liter output of around 89 HP, a Zündapp KS 100 (1969–1971) a liter output of exactly 100 HP.
