Hopfen am See is a district of the Bavarian city of Füssen in the Swabian district of Ostallgäu .

The climatic and Kneipp health resort, which is characterized by tourism, is located on the north shore of the Hopfensee about four kilometers northwest of Füssen at an altitude of 801 m above sea level. There are numerous overnight accommodations in health clinics, hotels, holiday apartments and private accommodation as well as a campsite.

The ruins of Hopfen Castle are on a hill above the village .

history

The first known documentary mention of Hopfen am See comes from the year 1172, at that time under the name de Hophen . For a long time the place consisted of only a few houses. At the beginning of the 20th century, the village gradually expanded and it was given the official addition on the lake .

After the Second World War it began to develop into a health resort and holiday resort. As part of the Bavarian municipality reform , the previously independent municipality was initially enlarged to include the town of Eschach on April 1, 1971 , but then assigned to the city of Füssen on May 1, 1978.

The parish church of St. Peter and Paul was restored in 1984. It is equipped with stucco by Joseph Fischer from Faulenbach, an excellent plasterer of his time. Also worth seeing are fragments of frescoes from the early 15th century depicting the battle of St. Depicting George with the dragon.

Since the completion of the A 7, the next motorway junctions are at Nesselwang and Füssen. The B 16 runs east of the village to Füssen. The speed limit on the Hopfen through-town is 30. In Füssen and near Hopferau there are train stations on the Biessenhofen – Füssen railway line (there used to be a separate Hopfensee stop on this railway line).
