Carl Franz Joseph Anton Benedek ( birth name: Karl Franz Joseph Anton Benedek; from "Karl" was later developed "Carl" as an artist name; also: Carl Benedek , Karl Benedek , Prof. Carl Fr. J. Benedek , pseudonym : Benedikt Walser ; can be found in the Internet under: Carl Friedrich Joseph Benedek ; born January 19, 1902 in Constantinople ; † March 6, 1967 in Hopfen am See near Füssen ) was an Austrian artist .

Life

Benedek completed his studies at the graphic teaching and research institute in Vienna . He then worked as a commercial artist and illustrator , a. a. for the Ullstein publishing house in Berlin . Benedek lived in Berlin from the 1920s until the Second World War . Throughout the war he was employed as a graphic war correspondent on several fronts. After being released from American captivity, he lived in Heidelsbuch near Füssen in the Allgäu from the late 1940s until his death .

In the fifties and sixties he not only made a name for himself as a painter with his watercolors in the Füssen district , but was also well known and valued in the German-speaking area for his natural-looking illustrations in numerous books (animal, youth and school books). Large publishing houses such as Fischer / Göttingen, Andermann / Munich-Vienna, Bertelsmann / Gütersloh, Klett / Stuttgart u. a. were among his clients.

Benedek is on the Roman cath. Part of the cemetery of Hopfen am See is buried.
