Horst Pomplun

Horst Eberhard Pomplun (born June 2, 1946 in Berlin ) is a German bodyguard , entrepreneur , author and publisher .

Life

Horst Pomplun grew up as the son of a former captain with his parents in Berlin and attended elementary school and high school in the Neukölln district , which he finished with secondary school leaving certificate . He then completed a commercial apprenticeship .

German Service Unit (Berlin)

In the mid-1960s he joined the former German Service Organization Berlin (Watchmen's Service) , a German service organization of the British armed forces , as a so-called “Rifle Man” . The unit, which was recruited from German civilian workers and commanded by the former Wehrmacht officer Johannes Gohl , was primarily used for security tasks in British military properties.

Pomplun was promoted to group leader and was involved in the operations of the British armed forces after the crash of a Soviet Yak-28 in the West Berlin Stoessensee . The GSO members were disguised as a British unit for legal reasons, as their participation violated the four-power status .

In 1970 Pomplun left the unit, which had since been renamed the German Service Unit (Berlin), and switched to the Berlin police service .

Police service

Pomplun had been a member of the Voluntary Police Reserve (FPR) at the time, which was set up in Berlin (West) in 1961 on the initiative of the Western Allies, in addition to his work in the British Armed Forces, since 1963 .

After leaving the German Service Unit, Pomplun switched to a permanent employment relationship with the police for a short time, but remained a member of the FPR.

Within the Voluntary Police Reserve, Pomplun rose to the rank of Hundertschaftsführer and was also employed as a liaison reservist at the then Directorate 3 of the Berlin Police.

In 1971 Pomplun ended his permanent employment with the police, but remained a member of the FPR. It was only with the dissolution of the unit, renamed Voluntary Police Service (FPD) in 1999, that Pomplun finally left the police force in 2002.

Bodyguards and entrepreneurs

Through personal contacts, Pomplun was connected to the Saudi royal family, for whom he carried out security and courier activities. He then decided to set up his own business and formed a small personal protection company.

After Pomplun was also temporarily deployed for Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt and Federal Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher during a renewed assignment in the mid-1970s , a request from the Foreign Office followed , whereupon Pomplun received the first training of the Saudi palace guard in the tasks of personal protection and security measures for one Saudi prince residing in Germany took over.

A short time later he founded his first larger company and from then on worked for high-ranking clients at home and abroad. In addition to Saudi Arabia, his assignments also took him to Israel and the USA .

Pomplun has been running the Berlin-based company VTP Security since 1985, which is supported by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry with training programs and has a branch in Florida , USA . In cooperation with Pomplun's company, the first nationwide certification of the activities of the bodyguard by the IHK Potsdam took place in 2000 .

The two then Prime Ministers Johannes Rau and Matthias Platzeck , the actors Melanie Griffith and Jack Nicholson and the singer Phil Collins were also among the publicly made protection persons who were protected by Pomplun's company . During two unofficial visits by the Venezuelan President Rafael Caldera and his successor Hugo Chávez , he took on security duties.

The company is run by Pomplun and his wife. He has published several books about his experiences and experiences, which he publishes in his own publishing house.

Horst Pomplun lives with his wife Ewa-Maria in the Berlin district of Kladow . He has three children and lives in a villa that was used as a Berlin residence by the British Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery immediately after the Second World War .


Trivia

During his service in the German Service Unit, he got to know the former test pilot of the Wehrmacht , Ernst Voigt , with whom he became friends. It was through him that he developed his passion for aviation, after which, after being mediated by Voigt, he completed his pilot's license .
