politics

In 2009 Wester joined the Animal Welfare Party. From March 2010 he was a member of the federal executive committee. In 2011 he was elected second deputy federal chairman at the federal party conference on October 15. At the following party congress on June 23, 2012, he acted as a meeting leader.

At the 31st federal party conference on January 12, 2013, due to a change in the statutes, he was elected alongside Stefan Bernhard Eck and Barbara Nauheimer as one of a total of three federal chairmen with equal rights. Eck had previously been the sole party chairman since 2007. In the 2013 federal election , he ran for fourth place on his party's state list. In the 2014 European elections , he was in eighth place on the federal list of his party. He was also secretary of the party's Bavarian regional association.

Since Eck and Nauheimer, together with some other board members, resigned from their offices at the turn of the year 2014/15 and at the same time resigned from the party, Wester was temporarily sole federal chairman due to this circumstance. Shortly afterwards he also became Bavarian state chairman; he held this office until December 2017. Since the special party conference on March 21, 2015, he was again one of three federal chairmen alongside Bettina Jung and Matthias Ebner . A motion of no confidence was put to him on this, but it was unsuccessful. Since Bettina Jung's resignation at the end of 2015, he was temporarily one of two federal chairpersons until Sandra Lück was elected to this office on October 8, 2016 . For the 2017 federal election he was the top candidate on his party's Bavarian state list. On October 8 of the same year he resigned from the office of federal chairman for personal reasons. Since the end of 2017 he has been the managing director of the Bavarian regional association. In 2018 he was elected ninth in the federal list for the 2019 European elections.

further activities

In mid-2016, Wester set out on foot from his home to Maasdorf , around 400 kilometers away , to protest against the high-rise pigs there.
